Originals Vinyl is owned and operated by brothers Dominic and Matthew Siracusa.
We carry Rock, Jazz, Soul, Hip-Hop, Funk, Blues, Reggae, as well as some country, soundtracks, and miscellaneous odds and ends. Our shop inventory consists mostly of used vinyl records but we do carry new pressings in the hiphop genre and a few re-issues of hard-to-find soul, jazz, and world recordings.
We have something for everyone, from those who are just starting out to the seasoned collector, from bargain bin deals to rare wall items. Many new arrivals are put out every week and if you’re looking for something specific, just ask.
Occasionally, we have guest deejays spinning tunes in the shop, live performances, and special events — to see what’s happening check out our Instagram, Facebook, or Blog. We’re paying top dollar for quality used records everyday; give us a call or check out our buy page for more info.
A LITTLE HISTORY
We started record collecting in the mid-90s as hip-hop deejays. Being largely sample based, we wanted to know where all the parts that made hip-hop came from (Jazz, Soul, Blues, etc) and the search to uncover new music became a bonding experience for us as brothers. As we traveled the U.S. and parts of the globe digging in different shops, we began to dream of one day having our own.
We started Originals Vinyl in 2014 with the idea of offering an ultrasonic record cleaning service so people could get the best sound out of their records. We purchased one cleaning machine, began offering the service at record swaps around the Bay Area, and people soon began to ask if we had shop where they could drop-off their records for cleaning.
In April of 2015, we decided to take the leap and open our first storefront in a small incubator space of only 100 square feet on 18th St. in San Francisco’s Mission district where, in addition to offering our cleaning and de-warping services, we began to sell a small but highly curated selection of quality vinyl records.
Customers liked the style of the shop — no junk, just the good stuff, having their records cleaned while they shop — and, after a year and half, we began to outgrow the Mission store and were extremely fortunate to find our current location on the corner of Hayes and Fillmore.
Though this space is physically much larger than our old one, we have kept the format the same: quality records at fair prices and have added a second machine to clean more records. In our more than four years of business we have had the fortune of sharing music with so many great people in the Bay Area record community and around the world, either as sellers to our shop or as customers, and we hope it continues in the years to come!
